This is a beautiful poem, Lorna. Thank you for sharing it. I esp like the ways you make ordinary sounds echo the guns—. Bumpy-bump-bump is especially fine.
Also, I always wonder what those babies think of those bumpy rides in a stroller without the suspension of a car: irritating, uncomfortable, soothing? It probably depends on the baby.
This is as powerful as the duhda duhda duh. It pushes back on all that is happening and makes it more real. Connects the sound to its intent. This is not just another night sound! Thank you so much. I am now wondering if there is much wild life around these areas. Do animals get used to these sounds?
Agree, very powerful and the sound repetition is very effective, well done!
Thanks, Kay! And, thanks for being one of the first to hear it in February.💜

Thanks, Christina! Amy Nixon heard my first draft and suggested the repetition of sounds. She’s such a brilliant writer, editor and friend.

Thanks for your observations, Candace. And for being one of the first to hear it.
I haven’t seen any wildlife. I am going there this week; I will look and listen. For wildlife that is. I still dread hearing the maneuvers.
Brilliant! So glad you posted!❤️
Thanks, Elaine! Thanks for being one of the first to hear it.
my heart beating. my breath gasping. I know these practice sounds well.
Oh, my goodness, you do! Thanks for helping me with the shaping of this poem. Forever grateful.
